"Don't it Taste Good!"

Mr. Garfield's is some right tasty BBQ.

The Chubsquad's Recon team made the trek from Nashville to check out this local eatery in Paris, TN.

The place has been relocated from its listing on Google; it's now located just out of town going towards Paris Landing State Park, on the right, past the SECOND Dollar Store (beware the price wars!).

Anyhoo, we got the Family Meal, Chubsquad Style--we asked for a pound of chopped pork and a pound of chopped brisket. Neither one was fatty at all! No wasted meat, all savory, slow-cooked the night before. Excellent choice in cuts of meat by the owners. In addition, the owners gave us huge portions!

Also, many BBQ joints tend to view the accouterments such as cole slaw, beans, and tater salad as almost 'throw-away' items, but Mr. Garfield's doesn't! The beans were smoky without being overbearing; they were tasty! The slaw was a mayonnaise-based concoction (not my favorite), but shone nonetheless. Finally, the potato salad tasted less like tater salad and more like a bacon, chive, and sour cream baked potato! Some of the best stuff I've had in a while!

Finally, the owner let us try some sweet cornbread that he'd only before taken out of the oven. It was a heavy bread with corn nuggets in it, but he'd coated it with sugar to make it almost a pudding-like dessert.

The new building is ok, the water and cokes come in bottles (no free refills), but the tea is bottomless.  While helpful and extremely friendly, there are no waitresses, and it ends up being pretty much help yourself, which isn't too bad.

Atmosphere is not great, but the food more than makes up for it. The four of us extremely large and serious guys ate well--filled to almost too much--for only slightly over $30.  And the hand sanitizer on the tables was a welcome sight.

BTW, the owner is NOT Mr. Garfield; Mr. Garfield was his step-dad.  The owner told us that his step-father would make two things well--BBQ and moonshine.  He said that if the BBQ ever stopped making money or didn't work out for him, he was going to switch to the moonshine recipe!

So, to recap: Meat taste-A. Portions-A+. Sides-A+. Atmosphere-C-. Service-B+. Value-A. Overall Grade-A.

I can still taste it. Good review and thanks for not posting that pick of me licking my plate clean.
